Administrative officials from Kiharu, Murang'a County, on Wednesday boycotted a development meeting held by area MP Ndindi Nyoro, during which he unveiled a new Assistant County Commissioner’s office.

Unlike in the past, when Nyoro would make development visits to his constituency, administrative officials, including chiefs and police officers, would come out to welcome him.

This time, however, the situation was different, as only residents were present to receive him, even though the administrative officials are set to benefit from the modern building the Kiharu MP was unveiling.

The development came a day after Nyoro, in a press briefing, addressed his removal as the National Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee Chairman, stating that he did not know what had necessitated his ouster, as the Kenya Kwanza coalition had not engaged him in any discussions regarding his position.

The situation sparked significant concern among Kiharu residents, who expressed disappointment at the officials’ decision to boycott the handing-over ceremony.

“The more they boycott you, the more we love you. You are our MP; not theirs,” said Ahmad Ali, a resident.

The residents added that they have faith in Nyoro, stating that his development record speaks for itself and that no attempts to stop him will hinder his efforts to serve them.

“We chose him without a campaign; his campaign was carried out through work, and now his work speaks for itself, when he says 'let's go,' we go,” added another resident.

“What saddens us is that we came to open this office and came to give it to the administration officers, but there is not even one here. We will not fault them we know that sometimes when you're told to do something, you just say, 'Yes, Sir.'”

In his speech, Nyoro insisted that he will continue to serve Kiharu residents, promising not to engage in politics of hatred and insults, but in development and respect.
