Speaking in Eldoret, the Tindiret legislator noted that there was a proper plan on how to exit excess staff in the university without laying them off that was reached then as one way of bringing back the once vibrant glory of the institution.
“We agreed on how to deal with excess staff without sending anyone home. I have been told there are people who have been sacked. We agreed on a formula of how to disengage them, we have a very clear exit formula for all the workers in this University. We want this University to regain its lost glory,” said Melly.
The legislator argued that the government has given the university Ksh. 2 billion and plans to further disburse funds to bail out the institution from its financial crisis.
“We agreed to develop an exit plan where when someone retires, a new staff is not hired. We did not say people to be sacked,” said the Tinderet MP.
He called on the area residents to shelve down their planned demonstration as he reaches out to the acting vice chancellor and the board on the same.
