MP Mbai denies assaulting a Kenya Power officer; 'It wasn't me, I am a renowned pastor'
The clip which surfaced online on July 4, showed Mbai roughing up the engineer who was reportedly seeking to disconnect an illegal power line at the legislator's home in Kitengela, Kajiado County.
Speaking on the matter after honouring a summon by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Monday, Mbai denied that he is the one captured in the video, arguing that the clip was manipulated.
"I never assaulted anyone. Do I look assaulting anybody, I am a renowned pastor. How conversant are you with the ICT and videos and copy-pasting and all these things around how you can play around with a video clip?" he said.
Mbai went on to support the incident, adding that his constituents have even shown their support for the action.
"If you go to Facebook and see how my people are commenting on the clip, it is the right thing to do you have to fight for your right, you can't get to a point of harassing and abusing people but a man has to do what he needs to do for things to move," he said.
"Given another opportunity I will handle it the same way and that's me I cannot change."
The legislator also stated that he holds no regret since he has not been involved in the alleged assault in the first place.
"You are talking of a clip which has been played around with so how can I be remorseful? This clip is not the original clip. What they tried to pass on social media there is a lot of editing on it," he said.
He further praised his constituents for showing their support, claiming that he is known as an individual who takes no prisoners.
"Those people who elected me know that I am a hero, they know that I am a no-nonsense person," he said.
Mbai was summoned by EACC for grilling over the incident, which has now taken a new turn, and has already given his statement as he awaits further action.
