MP Kiunjuri shrugs off Gachagua’s upcoming political declaration
Speaking during an interview with Inooro TV on Tuesday morning, Kiunjuri downplayed claims of a looming "political tsunami" in Central Kenya, widely believed to target President William Ruto's allies amid growing rifts in the region.
"It's just another party being announced," Kiunjuri said. "People will ask, what will this new party achieve that others haven’t? We’ve had PNU under Kibaki, Jubilee, and now UDA. At the end of the day, it's not parties that deliver—it’s the people themselves."
Kiunjuri criticised Gachagua's attempts to rally leaders who lost the previous election, questioning their ability to effect meaningful change.
"You cannot parade electoral losers without explaining why they lost or how they plan to address past failures," he stated.
The MP argued that Gachagua’s leadership in the region has raised more questions than answers.
"When the anger subsides, people will ask: What did you achieve for our region in your two years as deputy president? You traveled to Laikipia over ten times—did you even leave behind a single toilet or road?"
Kiunjuri, who previously served as Agriculture Cabinet Secretary under President Uhuru Kenyatta, warned that the ongoing political tension in Central Kenya might lead to the election of poor leaders in 2027.
"If this anger persists and voters make emotional decisions, we could end up with far worse leaders than we already have," he cautioned.
Since being ousted from his deputy president role, Gachagua has launched a scathing critique of his former allies in government and accused President Ruto of betraying the Central Kenya region that played a key role in his rise to power.
The former DP has promised a major political declaration this month, which he claims will reshape the political landscape of Mt. Kenya.
