Sirisia Member of Parliament John Waluke
could miss out on the lucrative position of commissioner in the Parliamentary
Service Commission (PSC).
In a letter seen by Citizen Digital, Minority
Leader Opiyo Wandayi excluded Waluke’s name from the list of nominated members
of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party to serve in the commission.
Waluke, who is currently incarcerated and
fighting to be released on bail, had been promised the position by his
coalition and his Jubilee Party has already presented him with nomination
certificate.
The scramble for top positions is causing
disharmony in the Raila Odinga-lead coalition, with ODM, Jubilee and Wiper
fighting it out for the few positions available.
In Wandayi’s letter to Speaker Moses
Wetangula, he proposes Likoni MP Mishi Mboko (ODM) and her Mavoko Counterpart
Makau Mutua (Wiper) to be members of the commission.
“I acknowledge with thanks receipt of your
letter referred SNA/CORR/2022(124) dated 13th October 2022. I am pleased to
confirm the Minority Party Nominees from the National Assembly to the
Parliamentary Service Commission,” Wandayi stated in the letter
However, Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah
Kioni has also written to Speaker Wetangula nominating Waluke as a commissioner,
and it will now be left to the members to decide who will represent them from
the Minority in the National Assembly.
“Jubilee Party wishes to submit the name of
Hon. John Waluke Koyi, Members of Parliament for Sirisia Constituency to be a
Commissioner in the Parliamentary Service Commission,” Kioni said in the letter.
The wrangles have also extended to the Senate
with Siaya Senator and Raila’s brother Oburu Odinga and Nyamira Senator Okongo
Omogeni fighting it out for the sole position to represent the minority in the
commission.
Sources however intimate that the recent
changes have seen the coalition propose Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo, who is the
Senate Minority Whip, to serve in the commission.
The move will see changes in the House
leadership if Dullo succeeds to serve in the commission.
Sources also intimate that Narok Senator
Ledama Ole Kina could replace Dullo as the Minority Whip while Omogeni will
replace Ole Kina as the deputy minority whip.
However, it’s a smooth sailing for the ruling
Kenya Kwanza coalition with Nyandarua Woman Rep Faith Gitau and Nyali MP
Mohamed Ali having been proposed from the National Assembly and Nominated
Senator Joyce Korir and Nyandarua's John Kinyua drawn from the Senate.
