MP Jhanda: Ruto should be distanced from Gachagua impeachment talks

Nyabari Chache Member of Parliament Zaheer Jhanda

Nyabari Chache Member of Parliament Zaheer Jhanda wants President William Ruto distanced from the escalating impeachment talks against his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.

MP Jhanda believes that the impeachment is propagated by leaders from the Mt Kenya region and Kenyans from different regions "for their reasons".

"President Ruto has nothing to do with the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua. Leaders from Mt. Kenya and across Kenya have made a decision that they want to impeach the deputy president," he told K24 TV on Monday.

"Even in our last meeting at the PG (parliamentary group meeting), President Ruto never wanted to hear anything to do with the impeachment of the Deputy President."

He added that DP Gachagua's only option is to resign from office before his alleged ouster plan hits the dock.

The legislator was rebutting sentiments from embattled United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party Secretary General Cleophas Malala urged President Ruto to block the alleged plan of impeaching DP Gachagua.

Speaking during a church service in Kiambu County on Sunday, Malala argued that the alleged plan to oust DP Gachagua is reportedly being pushed by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party-allied legislators.

He warned the president that the same leaders will train their guns to cripple him from clinching the presidential seat for a second term.

"I am not qualified to advise but these people you want to use to oust your deputy who stood with you, you might be thinking that you are impeaching Rigathi Gachagua but you have started the journey of removing yourself," noted Malala.

"The same people who are moving that motion, and I am being told that they have selected Junet Mohamed and Peter Kaluma, will start by removing your deputy but I assure you those same people will remove you as president."

Malala's sentiments were echoed by Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba and other leaders present in the convocation.

This comes amid rumours that the relationship between the President and DP Gachagua has turned sour and Gachagua is getting the short end of the stick.

Gachagua even intimated during a tell-all interview with Citizen TV that in-house politicking within UDA and the umbrella Kenya Kwanza outfit has seen leaders insulting him and they remain unchecked.

Gachagua called on President Ruto to protect him from the constant insults, reminding him of the promise made during the 2022 campaign season.
