Most Kenyans cannot afford to celebrate Christmas - poll

A majority of Kenyans will not be able to celebrate the Christmas festivities due to cash constraints.

A recent report released by pollster Infotrak said that 86% of Kenyans who took part in the survey said they cannot afford the Christmas expenses.

Of these, 100% are in Nairobi, Nyanza (80%), Western (91%), Rift Valley (83%), Central (91%), Eastern (90%), and North Eastern (41%).

Infotrak added that 89% of these are male and 83% are female.

Further, another 10% noted that they have no interest in celebrating the festive period, 6% said they will be working and 2% said they are Muslims.

The pollster also noted that 63% of the survey's participants will be spending time with their families, 28% will go to church, 27% will be spending time with friends and 15% will stay indoors.

Another 11% will be going for a holiday, 5% will be partying and drinking while 4% will be visiting the sick or going to a children's home.

60% of the interviewees also noted that they will not celebrate the season compared to the past.

The survey, conducted on December 20, 2024, covered all the 47 counties and 8 regions of Kenya.
