Moses Kuria reveals he is worth Ksh.750 million

Trade, Investment and Industry Cabinet Secretary nominee Moses Kuria has disclosed that he is worth approximately Ksh.750 million.

The former Gatundu South MP made the revelation when he appeared before the National Assembly’s Committee on Appointments for vetting on Tuesday evening.

“My financial net worth is Ksh.750 million. My net worth comprises of real estate developments, shares held in unlisted companies in my business concerns, manufacturing, fintech, and in the energy sector,” said Kuria.

The 51-year-old ex-legislator also went ahead to detail his journey to where he is today, stating that he joined the University of Nairobi (UoN) in 1990 and graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, specializing in Accounting in Finance.

He then dipped his toe into the job market, working for such corporations as Total Kenya among others between 1994 and 1995.

Kuria would then join Standard Chartered Bank in1995 and work there until 1999, when he was “poached by a bank in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia called Al-Rajhi Bank, which happens to be the largest Islamic Bank in the world.”

He worked at the bank for 4 years, before branching out in 2003 to team up with other colleagues in the Gulf region to form a banking and financial sector consultancy firm.

“I came back to Kenya in 2007 at the invitation of the late Mwai Kibaki, who was my friend, and he asked me to assist as a consultant in his government. I worked in that role until 2008, then joined the then Minister for Trade, Uhuru Kenyatta, as his Technical Advisor on trade matters,” he told the vetting committee.

“Later when Uhuru Kenyatta was transferred to the National Treasury as Minister for Finance, I moved there also as his Technical Advisor, until his election as President in 2013.”

Kuria thereafter offered himself up for election in the Gatundu South by-election of 2014 following the demise of then MP Joseph Ngugi, and won the seat.

He served as Gatundu South MP for two terms until August this year when he contested for the Kiambu governorship seat and failed.
