Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has now claimed that Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria misrepresented himself in relation to allegations that he and other political leaders aided President Uhuru Kenyatta in securing victory in the previous elections through rigging.

Senator Cherargei stated on Citizen TV's Daybreak show on Thursday that MP Kuria's comments, which were taken out of context, were uttered due to mispronunciation.

"I think for Moses Kuria I can take his word that he said 'tuliimbia instead of kuibia', but I have seen the chairman of IEBC intends to summon him to appear before the IEBC. I think Kuria himself has clarified that 'tuliimbia Uhuru Kenyatta ashinde kura' and I think for us to understand he said he mispronounced himeslf," he said.

"Let them investigate those claims and then lets let the IEBC to investigate and invite him to share his thoughts then from there we can look on conclusion."

The senator also urged Kenyans to ensure peaceful elections in August, urging leaders to accept defeat if the results do not go in their favor.

"My only request, and this is important to the country, is that let us have free, fair, transparent and verifiable general elections and what is important is that for the people who will loose an election should accept defeat."

Moses Kuria was speaking at the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party's NDC on Tuesday, criticizing President Kenyatta for ignoring DP Ruto and his allies despite being the team that propelled him to the top seat under the Jubilee coalition in 2013 and 2017.

The comments have since landed him in hot water, with political leaders chastising him and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) summoning him.
