More than 100 Kenyans now flee Sudan by bus

More than 100 Kenyans on Thursday left Khartoum, Sudan, for the South Sudan border enroute to Kenya.

The Kenyans, who left aboard two buses early morning, have been living in the Kenyan embassy staff quarters and getting their meals there since Monday.

About 140 more Kenyans left Sudan on Wednesday for Ethiopia on three buses, according to a Kenyan in the convoy.

The 100 Kenyans are set to be received by the Red Cross once they cross over into South Sudan.

This comes after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday night announced that a total of 342 evacuees arrived in Kenya from Sudan.

Among the 342 were Kenyan nationals, staff attached to United Nations and other agencies, Diplomatic Corps and International and Regional Organizations accredited to Nairobi.

The ministry said in a statement that the lot's journey was spearheaded by a multi-agency team that facilitated their entry, departure, transit, and movement within Kenya.

"[They] arrived from Khartoum through the port of Sudan by ferry to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia where they were flown in two aircraft," read part of the statement.

They were received at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by Co-operatives & Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui.
