Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho's first wife files for divorce

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho’s first wife, Madina Giovanni Fazzini, has filed for divorce at the Mombasa Chief Kadhi’s Court.

In an affidavit filed before the court on January 26, 2022, Fazzini argued that she and Joho separated in 2013 and there is little chance of them reviving their failed marriage.

Joho and Fazzini tied the knot in February 2011and the pair have since sired two children aged nine and eight years.

“I am clear and unequivocal that our marriage has broken down irretrievably with no chance of revival given we have both moved on over the years," said Fazzini in her affidavit.

Following their falling out, Fazzini also claimed that Joho immediately vacated their matrimonial home, leaving the two children under her care as such there are no grounds to uphold the marriage.

Fazzini and the children then moved out of the said home in September 2020.

“Since the respondent Joho moved out of our matrimonial home in June 2013, the substance of our marriage has dissipated and has no basis to be sustained from a legal and social standpoint,” she said.

Fazzini, who is born of an Italian mother and Somali mother, now wants the case to be treated with urgency.

The Kadhi’s court has given Joho 14 days to respond to the petition.
