Molo MP: Raila defended GMO years ago, why is his stand different now?

This is after Odinga, on Sunday, claimed that the introduction of GMOs will have severe implications for the nation's agriculture, further accusing President William Ruto of being held captive by western powers and acting as their "puppet".
"We consider the decision to lift the ban on GMO foods and their importation a betrayal to our country. On this, the Ruto administration is not working for Kenya," Mr Odinga said.
"He is being a puppet, working for foreign nations and their multinationals against our interest as a nation. He is working to promote foreign biotechnology institutions abroad," he added.
Appearing on Citizen TV's DayBreak show on Monday, Kimani claimed that Odinga has fallen victim to doublespeak since he once defended the use of GMOs in Kenya while serving as Prime Minister.
Kuria chided the opposition head for his turnaround claiming that most of the time he opposes things without any particular cause.
"One of the problems I have with Raila is that most of the time he opposes things just for the sake of it. I am saying this because on August 3, on the floor of the National Assembly, Raila defended GMO and since then a lot has changed in terms of technology and awareness about matters of health and scientific research," he said.
Citizen Digital has established that indeed Odinga, while serving as Prime Minister in Mwai Kibaki's administration, had strongly defended the introduction of GMOs in Kenya urging the dissenting MPs, led by the then Naivasha MP John Mututho, to "embrace science" and its developments.
“Developed nations like the US, Canada, Argentina and many countries in the European Union which have stringent safety and testing standards have embraced genetic engineering of food crops to improve food yields and develop pest-resistant crop varieties,” Raila said before the floor of the National Assembly.
However, further into his Sunday statement, he dared the government to furnish Kenyans with the scientific studies they are relying on to allow the consumption of GMOs, arguing that studies have proven GMOs unfit for consumption.
"There is no scientific study thus far that has unequivocally cleared GMOs as fit for human consumption and the environment. We challenge the government to share with Kenyans the scientific study it is relying on to declare GMO maize as fit for our consumption and our environment," he said.
