'Mlima ni ya Wakenya wote,' Wetangula, Ichung'wa slam DP Gachagua
Impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is yet again on
the receiving end, as leaders in the top brass of the Kenya Kwanza
administration, on Saturday, picked up where they left off before his
impeachment motion was tabled in parliament.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and National
Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah led an onslaught against him,
accusing him of spreading division in the country through regional and tribal
politics.
Speaking during the burial of Tharaka Member of Parliament George Murugara’s mother in Tharaka Nithi County, the leaders hinted at the swearing-in of Deputy President Nominee Prof. Kithure Kindiki next week.
“Huko kwetu tuko na Mt. Elgon… sisi watu wa Mount Elgon
hatujawahi sema tunatoka kwa murima,” said Wetangula.
“Kuna watu walisema mlima ikiguswa italipuka. Imelipuka?
The mountain belongs to all the people of Kenya. Hii mlima ni yetu wote… tusiwe
na viongozi wa kuwagawanya Wakenya kwa misingi ya kikabila,” Ichung’wah
added.
The leaders said Gachagua had orchestrated his downfall
by being disloyal to his boss, President William Ruto.
“In life, there is only one currency in politics, and it
is called loyalty. Loyalty to your course, people, boss, and what you stand
for,” addedWetangula.
Ichung’wah stated, “Tusiwe na viongozi wa
kuwagawanya Wakenya kwa misingi ya kikabila.”
Some members, bordering on recklessness, hinted at the
possible swearing-in of Prof. Kindiki next week as the Deputy President,
despite knowing the matter is in court and yet to be argued by the parties to
the dispute, being very much in the preliminary stages of litigation.
“Mungu akitujalia next week wekeni sherehe tayari, mimi
niko na habari, kutoka Wednesday, Thursday, Friday,” said Tharaka Nithi Senator
Mwenda Gataya.
Wetangula added, “Kindiki is my student in politics, and
he understands and appreciates that currency.”
On his part, Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi
Njuki said, “Wale watu wako na wasiwasi ati kuna kitu itafanyika kortini
nataka ulale unono kwa sababu sheria inasema status quo remains. The President
of Kenya appointed Kindiki as DP.”
“Even strength must give way to wisdom… mkiona huyo jamaa
hata kama ako na kifua kubwa aje, he must give way to wisdom,” added Kibwezi
West MP Mwengi Mutuse.
Hundreds of kilometres away in Homa Bay County, there were
calls for a quicker judicial process by another group of political leaders.
“Let the court move as fast as possible. He has been
granted enough time to be before the courts,” Homa Bay Town MP Peter
Kaluma noted.
“Kenya is one, and everybody has the right to reside,
eat, or stay anywhere,” added his Rangwe counterpart Lilian Gogo.
