Minor accused of chopping off neighbour's hand attacked by mob in Siaya

A 17-year-old is nursing injuries at Siaya County referral hospital where he was rushed after being rescued from the hands of an irate mob that wanted to lynch him at Mahaya village Siaya County.

The minor was rescued by the police after members of the public descended on him for allegedly attacking and chopping of the hand of his neighbor Mariko Monye.

According to Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo, it was reported to Aram police station by the area Assistant Chief Mr. Moses Ombewa that Mariko’s hand had been chopped off unknown persons on Saturday night.

He stated that angry members of the public then decided to pursue the assailants and managed to catch up with one suspect whom they subjected to serious mob attack. 

Kimaiyo stated that officers from Aram police station were informed and immediately rushed to the scene and rescued him.

While confirming the incident, the police boss stated that the minor was then rushed to Lwak mission hospital and later referred to Siaya County referral hospital in a critical condition.

Mariko, whose hand was chopped off, was referred to Bondo sub-county hospital.
