Kenyans warned of scams, visa fraud when seeking jobs abroad
Kenyans
seeking employment opportunities abroad have been urged to exercise due
diligence.
The
Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs cautioned Kenyans against falling prey
to fraudsters.
The Ministry acknowledged receiving complaints from citizens who have been defrauded in the
past while applying for travel visas to various destinations.
In a
statement, the Ministry warned that perpetrators of such schemes risk imprisonment
of fines, as determined by the courts.
Kenyans
were also urged to apply for the correct visas as provided on the official
websites of the respective countries.
“Visa application is a personal responsibility
that does not require the approval of agents of organizations,” reads part of
the statement.
Additionally, the Ministry has instructed its 67 missions abroad to assist Kenyans in verifying any job opportunities to ensure their safety and security.
