Migori: Two people shot in anti-government protests

Police officers quell anti-government protests on Wednesday.

Two people on Wednesday morning sustained gunshot wounds from the ongoing anti-government demonstrations in Migori County.

Oruba nursing home hospital administrator Mike Ochere has confirmed that two middle-aged men who have suffered gunshot wounds are receiving treatment at the health facility.

Ochere said one of the victims has been shot in the thigh while the other has been shot in the leg.

The hospital administrator said a middle-aged woman who suffered from suffocation after police lobbed teargas into her house is also receiving treatment at the facility.

Meanwhile, transport services have been paralyzed and businesses closed within Migori town following the ongoing demonstration within Migori and other towns within Migori County.

The police have repulsed the demonstrators from accessing Migori central business district.

The defiant protesters are also engaging the police in running battles within the estates of Oruba, Osaka and Apida which are adjacent to Migori town.

The demonstrators led by Ken Michael have accused the police of using excessive force on peaceful protesters.

He said the police should allow them to take part in peaceful protests.
