Migori County Police Commander Mark Wanjala
has fired a warning shot to individuals operating bars without licence and
other legal requirements as a crackdown on non-compliant operators continues.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Mr Wanjala said
they have learnt that a good number of bars in the county are operating without
licences among other required documents like certificates from the public
health department.
“Mambo ya crack down on ilicit brews na bars
ambazo hazina licences tunaendelea nayo kaunti nzima kwa sababu mambo ya bars
ambazo zingine hazina licenses ndio uhalifu huendelea. Hiyo operation
itaendelea kwa hivyo watu waende wakate licenses,” Wanjala said.
He said they would not allow any person to
run a business illegally, insisting that those operating bars must be
compliant.
The police boss said a multiagency team is
doing a countywide crackdown, adding that the exercise will continue until
sanity is restored in the sector.
Mr Wanjala said they have been able to arrest
a number of bar operators during the crackdown within the past two weeks,
adding that they have already been charged in court.
He has appealed to the members of the public
to work closely with the police to expose any non-compliant members in cleaning
out the sector.
