Migori: Manhunt launched after two remandees escape from police custody
Police
officers in Kuria West, Migori County,
are pursuing two remandees who escaped from custody at
the Kehancha Police Station.
Kuria
West sub-county Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo said the duo, identified as Nicholas Mohabe Chacha and Veronica Marwa, escaped from
the police cell at around 3am on Friday.
The police boss said Chacha had been charged with manslaughter while Marwa was charged with
theft.
Mr. Kimaiyo said a police officer who
heard a commotion inside the cell rushed to open it to find
out what was happening, only to be overpowered
by the two.
He
said several police officers rushed to the scene but,
unfortunately, they could not salvage the
situation.
He further added that one
police officer sustained injuries as they were trying to corner the two
escapees.
Mr. Kimaiyo said a manhunt is
underway for the two remandees who are still at large.
