Meru man arrested after allegedly killing expectant wife
A woman died after she was reportedly hit on the head by her husband during a domestic argument in Gankere Village, Meru County.
Polly Kathambi is said to have died after she was hit with a blunt object by her husband, Paul Nteere, who managed to escape from a mob baying for his blood but later surrendered himself to Nchiru Police Station.
The 25-year-old woman, a teacher at Palmrose Academy, is said to have been at least four months pregnant as at the time of her death. She leaves behind a 2-year-old boy.
According to the school owner, Polly had expressed concern over frequent domestic fights in her home and would at times get to work late as a result.
Neighbours attributed her death to rise of illicit brew in the area, further blaming area Chief James Mutethia for not doing anything about it.
They intimated that illicit alcohol has been the cause of domestic violence in many homes as well as school dropouts.
The chief was, however, unreachable for comment at the time of publishing.
