Meru: Four suspects arrested after undercover cops unearth guns hidden in miraa bags
Four individuals accused of selling firearms
and ammunition in Maua township were arrested following a sting operation
conducted by a team of undercover police officers from Igembe South, Meru
County.
According to a police report obtained by
Citizen Digital, the team, who posed as firearm buyers, approached the suspects
to purchase two AK-47 rifles in the Maili Tatu area.
One of the suspects brought the firearms
concealed as a miraa bag aboard a motorcycle.
Moments later, the officers revealed their
identities and pounced on the four men namely John Mutuma alias Pastor, Pius
Mutembei, Richard Muriungi, and Peter Kithinji.
Two AK-47 rifles were recovered and the
motorcycle was impounded at Maua Police Station.
"They have provided leads that may lead
to further recoveries and progress report to follow. They will be presented
before Maua Law Courts through a Misc," read part of the report.
The officers have also filed an application
seeking custodial orders to have the suspects detained to assist in the
investigations.
