Mercy Tarus accused of contempt of court in Finland scholarship scandal case
Mercy Tarus, the first prosecution witness in the Finland scholarship
scandal involving Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago, on Friday faced contempt
charges at a Nakuru court.
Appearing before Senior
Principal Magistrate Aloyce Peter Ndege, Tarus said that the comments she made on various interviews
in different media were not discussing the merits or demerits of the case as
they were mere expressions of anger.
She said that she did not
expressly discuss the contents of the case, and said that some of her
interviews may have been taken out of context.
Lawyers of Senator Mandago
had to replay videos in the courtroom to prove to the court that indeed she had
uttered some words which would on the face of it mean that the accused was
guilty and would be jailed.
Magistrate Ndege, while
delivering his ruling, pardoned Tarus but warned of dire consequences should
such a thing involving the case happen outside the court again.
The case has been
rescheduled to continue again from December 2nd, 3rd and 5th this year
