Memorial service held for late Multimedia University student Sylvia Kemunto

During the memorial service, Kemunto was remembered as a calm, friendly, and academically focused individual. Students described her death as a painful loss that came suddenly, robbing them of a caring and dedicated peer.

Her family mourned what they called a premature and tragic end to a life filled with promise and potential.

The university administration expressed regret that the incident occurred within the school’s precincts, but stated there was little that could have been done to prevent it. Through the university council, the management pledged continued support for the family during their time of mourning. The school management also urged male students to contribute towards creating a safer environment on campus by protecting their female colleagues.

Kemunto was killed on March 30th. The main suspect, Philip Eric Mutinda, is currently in police custody. She will be laid to rest this Friday in Kisii County.
