Melvine Thogo is the new Chairperson of the University of Nairobi Students Association (UNSA).

The third-year law student, who is the outgoing secretary-general for UNSA Parklands Campus, becomes the second female in the institution to clinch the seat after Ann Mvurya, who was elected in 2019.

Thogo emerged victorious in the competitive race to succeed the outgoing chairperson, Eddie Mwendwa Mutua, for the 2022-2023 period.

After being announced the winner, Thogo took to social media to appreciate her supporters.

"Heartfelt gratitude to the students for your unwavering belief and support that I can lead this great esteemed establishment to better prosperous days. I'd love to reiterate that I'll work towards the betterment of the welfare of the students," she stated.

As the university lauded her for her success, national leaders also took to social media to congratulate Thogo on her new achievement.

Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President and aspiring Westlands MP Nelson Havi said: "The Command Centre and Team Havi is delighted to announce that it now has two Presidents. Congratulations Madam President Melvine Thogo on your election as the President of University of Nairobi Students’ Association (UNSA)”

Advocate Esther Ang'awa stated: "I am immensely proud of President Melvine Thogo. She made the best Deputy Secretary of State at the Command Centre. I am delighted to see her scale higher heights of leadership at the University of Nairobi Students Association. Congratulations Madam President."
