Meet John Methu; Nyandarua’s youngest senator
He has no relative with a big name but has found his way into the Senate, after his election as the third Nyandarua Senator.
Methu, 31, becomes the youngest Senator among those elected during the recent General Election and is now rolling up his sleeve to define his space in the political arena and as a young leader.
This was his second attempt to contest for the Nyandarua senatorial seat which he was able to go through on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket.
In the August 9 polls, the senator-elect emerged winner of the hotly-contested seat by garnering 158,096 votes, beating seven other contestants who included outgoing Senator Mwangi Githiomi, who managed a meagre 18,244 votes.
Methu tells Citizen Digital that his interest to join politics started way back when he was a Political Science student at the University of Nairobi, something that also caught his parents by surprise.
Though he was able to traverse the vast county, the Senator elect rarely appears in the media and even is never in the forefront as other high profile political leaders who have made headlines in the country.
This, however, could not deter him from chasing his dreams and now seek to prove to senior politicians that young people can also deliver.
Methu says he is now focusing his eye on redeeming the image of Nyandarua County which he argues has been tainted by leadership wrangles that bedevilled the Executive and the local County Assembly in the past two years.
He was instrumental in bringing together and strengthening the UDA wave in Nyandarua County and hence, he says, he would use the same zeal to champion for meaningful development and growth of Nyandarua County.
Unity of purpose, he says, is very necessary to realise the aspirations of the local people.
