Matiang’i, Kibicho tell off DP Ruto over claims of campaigning for Raila
Interior
Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i and his Principal Secretary Karanja
Kibicho have scoffed at criticism by the Deputy President Willim Ruto-led Kenya
Kwanza alliance over their stand on the forthcoming elections.
Speaking
in Nyamira County during a funds drive on Saturday, the duo said they will continue
holding meetings with security officers across the nation in preparation for
the August polls.
This
coming barely two weeks to the General Election, CS Matiang’i said critics will
not deter him from executing his mandate of ensuring security in the
electioneering period and a smooth political transition thereafter.
“Mnaskia
wananchi tunalaumiwa na kulimwa tukiwa pamoja; ata nimeskia wanasiaisa wengine
hawawezi kumaliza speech bila kusema Kibicho na Matiang’i, as if if they don’t
mention our names they will be denied meals in their homes,” Matiang’i said.
“When we
are here in Nyamira, imagine the kind of impression we would leave here if we
had not met the chiefs whom we work with? When we meet them they start
complaining…we are only discussing work-related issues and planning how our
people will remain united and uphold peace.”
PS
Kibicho on his part underscored that as national leaders, they are entitled to
advise their people on making sound decisions during the polls.
“If we
ask you to elect integral leaders, we are not telling you who they are. We are
simply saying you to pick the candidate who passes the integrity test,” said
Kibicho.
While drumming
up support for Azimio la Umoja One Kenya presidential flagbearer Raila Odinga,
the duo called for political sobriety as political campaigns enter the home
stretch to ensure peaceful co-existence.
