Martha Karua's NARC-Kenya rebrands to People's Liberation Party

NARC-Kenya has officially rebranded to the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), with party leader Martha Karua stating that the move aligns with a progressive, people-centred agenda focused on unity, transparency, and accountability.

The party also aims to attract the younger generation, particularly Gen Z.

Speaking ahead of the party’s official launch on Thursday, Karua explained that NARC-Kenya, formed nearly 20 years ago, had become less familiar to younger voters. The transition to PLP is meant to revitalize its appeal and reaffirm its commitment to democratic ideals.

“Our goal with this rebrand is to let people know that we are now the People’s Liberation Party, a party rooted in liberation,” Karua stated.

“We have introduced new colours—purple, lilac, and white—while maintaining our identity as a flower party. Previously symbolized by a green rose, we now embrace the purple rose, which represents love, friendship, and peace. Our slogan is ‘Unite - Liberate.’”

Karua also criticized the Kenya Kwanza administration’s decision to introduce fees for national identity cards, arguing that many young people cannot afford the charges.

She warned that this policy could disenfranchise the youth, denying them both access to essential services and the ability to shape the country's future through voting.
