in the 2022 General Elections, Martha Karua has shunned the ongoing
inauguration ceremony of President-elect William Ruto.
As delegates arrived at the Kasarani
Stadium to witness Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua taking the oath of office,
Karua was spending her morning at a Golf Course in an undisclosed location.
“My day so far,” she captioned a photo of
herself on the green, holding a golf club.
Karua did not detail whether she had
received an invitation letter to witness the inauguration of William Ruto.
On Monday, her boss and Azimio’s Presidential
Candidate Raila Odinga said he had received an invitation, but will not attend the national event.
"This evening, I received a letter and
a telephone call from H.E Dr William Ruto inviting me to his inauguration set
for tomorrow, September 13, 2022. I regret however that I will not be available
for the inauguration because I am out of the country and I also have other
serious concerns," Raila said in a statement.
The former Prime Minister additionally
expressed his dissatisfaction with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission
(IEBC) and the Supreme Court for declaring Ruto as President-elect.
“First, I believe that the Independent
Electoral and Boundaries Commission, the body in charge of our elections, did
not conduct a free and fair election,” he said.
“Secondly, I believe that the ruling of the
Supreme Court was not based on the facts and the law, even though we accepted
it,” he added.
Raila said that Azimio will give a way forward
once he returns to the country.
