Marsabit Governor nominates new Municipal Board Chair as former official still missing
Marsabit
Governor Mohamud Mohammed Ali has proposed Adan Wario for appointment as the new
Chairperson of the Marsabit Municipality Board.
The
official statement was communicated to the Members of County Assembly by Speaker
Edin Wario during the resumption of the House business on Wednesday.
Before
his nomination, Mr. Wario, a professional educationalist, unsuccessfully vied
for the Saku Parliamentary seat in the August 2022 General Election.
The
nomination by Governor Ali comes at a time when former Chair of the
Municipality Board Roba Sereka is still missing.
Roba
went missing on February 2, 2022 after he was reportedly picked up at gunpoint
at Green Valley shopping centre in Nairobi’s South C area.
Marsabit
got the Municipal Charter in August 2019 following approval by the Assembly
after a court injunction.
The
new appointee is expected to be vetted by the Assembly before the Governor
formally appoints him to assume office.
If
approved, the new sheriff in town will lead the board in overseeing the affairs
of the Municipality, set targets for service delivery, as well as formulate and
implement an integrated development plan.
Other
responsibilities include; implementation of county and national legislation,
monitoring and regulating municipal services as well as collecting rates, taxes
levies, duties, fees and surcharges on fees as delegated by the County
Government.
Accepting
the appointment, Mr. Wario promised, once approved, to lead the board to
provide efficient and seamless service delivery.
The
county is also in the process of creating a municipal charter for Moyale town.
