Police in Nakuru County have launched a manhunt on four suspects who allegedly deconstructed a railway line in Burgei Village in Rongai.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects had dismantled 65 rails and 120 slippers, and had started loading them into a waiting lorry when police from the nearby area accosted them on Sunday night.

"But on sighting the officers, the loaders and the lorry driver immediately took off leaving the lorry registration number KCH 646T loaded with the vandalized materials," DCI said in a statement issued on Monday.

The investigative agency said the railway track runs from Rongai to Kampi ya Moto and Solai.

While condemning the incident, the DCI said that vandalism of critical national infrastructure is a serious offense and that proper action will be taken against any offenders.

Meanwhile, the suspects are still at large.
