Police in Mwea, Kirinyaga County, are hunting
down a 17-year-old boy suspected of killing his 12-year-old cousin before
fleeing the crime scene in Kagio town.
The suspect, a Form Three Student, reportedly
killed his Grade Seven cousin under unclear circumstances, after the pair was
left alone in their family home.
"I left my daughter (victim) doing
homework with her cousin and I went to the market with my maid and husband.
After finishing our errands, my husband and I stayed back while the maid headed
home," Pauline Wairimu, the deceased's mother and the suspect's aunt,
told Citizen Digital.
"When the maid arrived and went to the
room my daughter and nephew had been studying in, she found my girl lying in a
pool of blood."
Wairimu and her husband rushed home, promptly
taking their daughter to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead on
arrival.
"I did not think that my sister's child
would kill my daughter," added Wairimu.
Confirming the incident, Kirinyaga Police
Commander Andrew Naibei said the victim's body had been moved to Kibugi Funeral
Home awaiting post-mortem.
"She had visible injuries on her body.
We are searching for the suspect and we will bring him in," siad Naibei.
