Man who killed lover, dumped body in septic tank detained for 10 days

A Kirinyaga court has ordered police officers attached to Wanguru Police Station to detain a 24-year-old for ten days to probe the murder case involving his lover.

Brian Wambugu Mwangi, who is currently held at Wanguru Police Station, is the prime suspect in the murder of his lover, Grace Nelima, 23, who was found in a septic tank on March 10, 2025.

Detectives allege that the suspect murdered his lover by burying her in a septic tank in a family homestead in Ngurubani town.

Prior to the incident, the deceased had been seen in a bar enjoying drinks and dancing with friends before leaving the premises. Moments later, Nelima and Wambugu are said to have gotten into a physical altercation which turned fatal.

Her decomposing body was later found on March 15 in a septic tank by a maid cleaning the compound.

Two other suspects believed to have taken part in Nelima's murder have also been taken into custody by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to aid in investigations.

Nelima, a single parent of two children, had relocated to Kirinyaga County from her Statunga village home in Kitale in search of greener pastures.

On arrival in Kirinyaga, the victim landed in Ngurubani town, where she started hawking melons and porridge to make ends meet.

A few days later, she was employed as a bar waiter in the bustling town. Close friends said that she was excelling in her job before her untimely passing.
