Dandora: Man allegedly poisons wife and her friend after she refused to cook

Sebastian Kamande, who reportedly poisoned his wife and her friend in Dandora, in police custody.

Nairobi-based detectives have apprehended a man who allegedly poisoned his wife and her female friend on March 29, 2022 before going into hiding.

Sebastian Kamande, 28, reportedly poisoned his wife Rahab Gathoni and her friend Abigael Gathoni at their matrimonial home in Dandora, Nairobi County, before fleeing to Embu.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) report, the suspect was nabbed on Friday at Sagana River while en route to Nairobi after sensing his looming arrest.

DCI stated that soon after committing the crime, Kamande fled to Embu after it was reported to Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) sleuths based in Nairobi.

The multi-agency team then immediately dispatched a team to trail the culprit and bring him to book, before he was cornered after a week-long operation.

“A lean team of three swift men was dispatched towards Embu and as their hatchback descended the meandering highway towards the Sagana river bridge, the sleuths got wind that the suspect was on his way back to Nairobi, in a bid to outfox them,” read the statement.

“What followed was an immediate change of mission and a dramatic arrest along the highway as the suspect was ejected from a vehicle he had boarded, in a well-coordinated operation monitored at the Cyber and Digital forensics operations room.”

Kamande was cornered and brought to Dandora Police Station.

In the case, which detectives perceive could have been fueled by marital squabbles, Kamande is said to have committed the cold murders when his wife - after receiving a visitor - declined to cook, forcing him to do so himself.

This reportedly happened after the estranged couple returned from the man’s parents' home in Kakuzi, Murang’a County, where they had been invited in an attempt to rekindle their union which is said to have been on its death bed.

“It is during the preparation of the evening meal of rice and stew," said the DCI, adding; “that the suspect laced it with an unspecified poison and served the two women before fleeing.”

The suspect is behind bars awaiting arraignment on Monday where he will face twin murder cases of the two women.
