Man posing as Nairobi County official arrested soliciting Ksh.100K bribe
A man was on Tuesday arrested allegedly demanding
a Ksh.100,000 bribe while posing as a Nairobi County Government official.
William Okoth, pretending to be the county secretary’s personal assistant, promised to help the complainant’s wife secure a job as a cleaner in the county government, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) said.
“The suspect hoodwinked the complainant
into believing that as the ‘PA to the CS’, he enjoyed massive influence in the
affairs of the county and would promptly facilitate the issuance of an
employment letter after the complainant buys him ‘tea’ at Ksh.100,000,” EACC Spokesperson
Eric Ngumbi said.
The complainant reported the matter
to the anti-graft agency, leading to Okoth’s arrest at a Nairobi restaurant after
allegedly receiving the bribe.
Okoth was detained at Kilimani police
station and was set to record a statement on Wednesday.
