Man kills wife, dumps body in septic tank after baby’s DNA turns negative
The suspect Waeed Taheed is reported to have confessed to the murder after investigating officers from Mpigi District visited his home following a report that he had personally filed about his missing wife on Sunday.
The detectives revealed they were met with a foul smell of ‘decomposing body’ which upon further interrogation they got the confession that the suspect had murdered his 25-year-old wife, Monica Nabukenya and dumped her body in a septic tank at their home in Kalagala Village.
Ugandan daily The Monitor reports that the man revealed that he had suspected the wife of infidelity before committing the homicide.
"In the process of interrogation, the detectives at Kayabwe Police Station tasked Taheed to first lead them to his home and upon reaching, the decomposing body's smell was felt and it was discovered in the pit. He later admitted to killing the wife because of the negative DNA test results," read a police statement according to the Nation.
“Taheed decided to take all the children for a DNA test and it so happened that the results turned negative.”
The suspect who is the manager of a construction company in Kayabwe is reportedly believed to have also filed a divorce four months ago which was yet to materialise after learning he was not the real father.
Kayabwe Town Council Chairperson Richard Ddumba, who knew the couple, said they had been living privately until recently when the pair disagreed about the paternity of their only child, prompting the husband to take the baby for a DNA test.
"What I know, is the couple had only one baby, when the man received information that the baby belonged to another man, he took the child for a DNA test which proved that he is not the real father," he said.
Ddumba also told the police that Taheed had informed him prior to the occurrence that he was pursuing a divorce after learning about the DNA results.
The suspect is currently behind bars awaiting arraignment.
