A 56-year old man was on Thursday sentenced
to 15 years behind bars after being found guilty of killing his wife in Kambaru
village, Embu County.
High
Court Judge Lucy Nuguna heard that Crispin Nyaga murdered his spouse, Catherine
Mbuya, in cold blood after arriving back home from a drinking spree on December
25, 2022.
Before
going to paint the town red, Nyaga reportedly left his wife Ksh.2,000 to buy
food and other commodities after selling miraa worth Ksh.3,000 at Kiritiri
market.
He
is said to have instructed his wife to include meat in the list of items that
she was going to purchase.
When
Nyaga got home after imbibing a couple of drinks, he demanded for food, only
for his wife to serve him a plate with no meat on it.
A
quarrel soon ensued and an enraged Nyaga reportedly grabbed a machete and
hacked Catherine on the leg just below the knee.
When
Catherine fell on her knees, Nyaga grabbed a thick piece of wood and hit her on
the head, killing her instantly.
“By
releasing you, we will cause more harm to the community, you are a serious
offender to your family and to the community, you deserve a custodial sentence
for the safety of Kambaru people,” Justice Njuguna said in her ruling.
The
judge also stated that village elders had raised concerns that should Nyaga be
released, he would harm his children.
“In
considering all the above, I sentence you, Crispin Nyaga, to 15 years
imprisonment,” ruled Justice Njuguna.
