Man hospitalised after attack by his father for cutting down avocado trees
The 35-year-old George Mwangi Ng’ang’a is said to have been injured by his 80-year-old father with a machete at their home in Kenol, Murang’a County on Saturday.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) report records that Mwangi allegedly trimmed the avocado trees on his father’s farm without his consent.
An altercation ensued between the two but Mwangi unapologetically disrespected his father, something the DCI attributed to his old age, leading to the attack.
“When his 80-year-old father confronted him over his decision to cut down the trees without his consent, the boy became defiant and murmured in a manner likely to suggest that his father’s days below the sun were numbered, therefore he shouldn’t make decisions affecting the future of the farm,” read the DCI statement.
“At this point, the furious octogenarian reached for a machete and went after the son, saying in the local dialect ( I will not be inherited while still alive).”
The machete is said to have landed on the left side of the man's chest severely wounding him.
The DCI also noted that the victim’s mother, 68-year-old Cecilia Njeri was also present at the scene but she was incapable of separating the two.
Mwangi was rushed by his relatives to Thika Level V hospital where he is undergoing treatment.
A probe by the Kenol police station detectives is currently underway to shed light on the matter.
