45 years in jail for man found guilty of killing college student who rejected his advances

Man found guilty of killing Vera Beauty College student Emma Wanyota has been handed 45 years imprisonment.

Mustafa Idd, a carpenter behind the grisly murder of a college student four years ago was sentenced by the Eldoret High Court.

While delivering the sentence, Justice Reuben Nyakundi described as heinous and brutal the manner in which the accused, killed Emmah Wanyota.

Idd is accused of killing the former Eldoret based Vera beauty college student on September 30, 2019 at her parent’s home in Moi’s Bridge, Uasin Gishu County.

The court room was jammed by the slain student’s family members led by her mother Beatrice Wanyota and her twin sister Sharon as early as 8:30 am.

There was drama in court when the deceased mother broke down in tears as the Judge was delivering the sentence against the convict forcing the judge’s assistant to cool her down.

Justice Nyakundi noted how the convict subjected the victim to torture leading to her brutal murder on the fateful day.

The convict is said to have hit the slain college student with a blunt object on her head then raped her before chopping off her legs after she rejected his sexual advances.

During her testimony in court, the late Emmah’s mother narrated how she left her daughter in the house and that on returning back, she found her living room in shreds covered in blood.

She said that her late daughter had only remained with one month to complete her college education.

According to the slain student’s twin sister, the man, who is a well-known carpenter in Moi’s Bridge Town, was the deceased’s ex-boyfriend.

Idd, she told the court, was familiar to the family since he had made furniture for both her mother and brother.

Speaking to the media after the sentence, the late college student’s mother welcomed the jail term meted out on the man linked to the killing of her daughter.

On her part, Sharon said that Justice has been served to her late sister and the family in general noting that they have gone through tough times in the past four years following her brutal murder.
