A man who was charged with conspiring to defraud the government of Kenya a total of 2,398 bags government's subsidized fertilizer, each 50kgs worth more than Ksh.7 million, has been freed.

Hillary Samoei is said to have obtained the said fertilizer after he fraudulently claimed to have a parcel of land measuring 300 acres for crop farming within Olololung'a sub-location in Narok County.

According to documents from the Milimani Law Courts, Samoei jointly with others who were not present, defrauded the government between March 10 and November 21, 2023.

The accused appeared in court on Tuesday after he was arrested on December 30, 2023 and was freed on a Ksh.500,000 cash bail after pleading not guilty to the charges.
