A 37-year-old man was on
Wednesday charged at the Thika Law Courts for stealing a Bible from the town’s Naivas
supermarket branch.
John Muturi Njuguna admitted that he walked
into the supermarket and made away with the Revised Standard Version Holy Bible
valued at Ksh.1,080 on September 13, 2022.
In his defence, Muturi told the court that he
was driven by a calling from a dream he had, where he claimed the Holy Spirit
wanted him to read a certain verse in that particular Bible but he did not have
it. He asked the court to forgive him.
A lawyer, since only identified as Gatonye,
and who was present at the time of the hearing, asked the court to release
Muturi on condition that he would pay the Ksh.1,080 owed to the
supermarket for the Bible.
The bill was settled and the court's Chief
Magistrate, Stella Atambo, released the man who then walked home
with the new Holy Book.
