A 40-year-old man was swept away by floods at Ikamate bridge in Ndoleli area in Igembe North, Meru County following heavy rainfall.

According to witness reports, the Ikamate bridge of Mworwara Valley in Ndoleli area connecting Igembe North and and Igembe Central has flooded since the rains started deeming it impassible.

Locals say that heavy downpour has been experienced in these areas for the last four days and even KCPE and KPSEA candidates have been having difficulties crossing the dilapidated bridge to reach examination centres.

Residents now call on the Government to construct for them a new bridge since the collapsed one is posing a danger to many especially children during this rainy season.

The incident comes amidst similar flooding in the Eastern and Northern regions where a 20-year-old man from Shambani Village in Burat, Isiolo North was also swept away on Thursday alongside a motorbike he was riding on.
