Magoha's brother Prof. Richard Alex Nyabera buried in Siaya

The late Prof. Richard Alex Nyabera Magoha, the younger brother of the late former Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha, was on Saturday laid to rest at his rural home in Gem, Siaya County.

The cortege left Aga Khan Funeral Home in Kisumu early in the morning accompanied by family and friends of the late U.S-based Prof. Nyabera who died on December 6, 2022, at the age of 69 following a short illness.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Achieng Magoha and three children Crystal Magoha, Ashley Magoha and Bernard Magoha.

“It is not easy, we as a family personally had spoken to some of his friends. One of them is Prof. Obuong, he gave me a picture of what happened and the state which Richard was and I knew Richard was not going to be there for long; biologically he was gone so as you saw there, those who knew about Richards’s condition had a terrific time. But we were all created by the same God and at his own time He takes us away,” said the deceased’s elder brother John Obare.

“This is a journey that we are all meant to go through, and it is better for all of us to prepare. Personally, I leave here in a different mood. I came here to mourn but I leave here strengthened,” County Commissioner Nyamira Josephine Onunga added.

Former Defense CS Eugene Wamalwa, who was also at the service, condoled with the family pledging his support and that of his former colleagues who served in the Cabinet alongside Prof. George Magoha.

“Wenzetu pia Azimio wametuma rambirambi zao, tukiongozwa na kinara wetu Raila Amolo Odinga, Mama Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Oparanya na wengine. Condolences to the family, friends of the late Prof. Richard Alex Nyabera Magoha,” Wamalwa said.

“It is with deep sorrow that I send you this message of condolence and encouragement following the death of the late Prof. Richard Nyabera Magoha. The death of a professor is a big loss.”
