Machakos man who went missing 7 years ago reunited with family
Joy
filled the air at the Kithyoko Mercy Servants Home of the Poor in Masinga, Machakos
County, on Saturday after a man who went missing more than 7 years ago was
reunited with his family.
Before
he was brought to the home, the man who has been identified as Mwamali Muthiani
had been hospitalized at Kenyatta National Hospital with head injuries, which impaired
his memory.
The
man had stayed in the home for 4 years when his memory started coming back and
he started mentioning names of his family members and home place.
The
Catholic nun who runs the home then contacted the chief of the area and that is
how his family members were traced.
According
to sister Mary Musembi, the shocked family members couldn’t believe that their
kin and been when they arrived at the care center to take Muthiani home.
Muthiani's
sister Ann Twili who couldn’t hold back tears said they had searched for their
brother everywhere including in morgues but their efforts bore no fruit.
On
her part, his mother Monica Muthiani said: "I had lost hope of finding my
second-born son but through God’s grace we have finally found him. I thank
sister Mary for taking good care of him while at her home."
At
the same time, KNH's Director of Social Services Kadie urged family members who
are unable to trace their loved ones to liaise with the hospital, as there are
many other people whose family members can’t be traced, with 12 being housed at
the Kithyoko home.
He
also urged well-wishers to support the homes which have taken up the noble cause
of taking care of the needy.
