Machakos
Governor Wavinya Ndeti has waived all medical fees for casualties of Monday’s accident
in Katangi along the Kitui-Machakos
Road, Machakos County Health CEC Daniel Yumbya has announced.
The
accident, which claimed nine lives, involved a 41-seater matatu heading
towards Machakos from Kitui.
Eight
people, among them 7 adults and a child, died on the spot, while the driver
died on arrival at the Machakos Level 5 hospital.
Dr
Yumbya on Tuesday said the total number of patients taken to Machakos level 5 was
35, where four among them are in critical condition and have been unmarked as
they cannot speak.
Twenty-four
other casualties are also receiving treatment for serious injuries but are in
stable condition.
Yumbya
also confirmed that they have recalled all the medical officers who were at
home.
"All relatives of the affected casualties will have to first visit a desk that has been set for them for counselling and as of now the casualty has been closed for visitors," the CECM added.
