Maandamano Wednesday: Kisii police tracking machete-wielding gang attacking protesters
Police
in Kisii County are on the hunt for a machete-wielding gang that was reportedly
attacking youth partaking in anti-government demonstrations in the region on
Wednesday.
Eyewitnesses
say that the gang members were marauding in two white Toyota Probox vehicles
and a black RAV4.
"We
were demonstrating because of the high cost of living and then suddenly those
crooks descended upon us. They were armed with machetes and arrows," an
area resident told Citizen Digital.
Following
attacks by the marauding gang, several youth are nursing serious injuries in
various medical facilities within Kisii.
The
development comes as police continue to engage rioters who lit bonfires in
different parts of the county in protest of the Kenya Kwanza government.
The
demos paralysed the transport in the area as shops remained close for the
better part of the day.
Many
schools were also closed down because of the opposition Azimio la Umoja One
Kenya-led demonstrations.
