The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has written a letter to police, seeking information on the number of persons arrested and detained during the Azimio demonstrations.

It also wants the police to furnish them with any documents relating to the postmortem and cause of the death of those who died as a result of the protests.

Similarly, LSK seeks to be provided with the names of the persons killed since the start of the anti-government protests.

"In accordance with article 35 of article of the constitution and section 4 and 5 of the access to information act, we write to you therefore seeking to be furnished with the following information," reads the letter.

The lawyers’ body wants the information furnished to them within seven days.

Through its chair Erick Theuri, LSK said it will take information on the above and consider legal actions against the police over violation of rights and use of unreasonable force on demonstrators.
