LSK official testifies in Brian Mwenda's impersonation case

Brian Mwenda Njagi, who is accused of masquerading as a lawyer

An employee of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) on Monday told court that it is impossible for two advocates to share the same admission number.

While testifying in a case where alleged fake lawyer Brian Mwenda has been charged, Vivian Mosuna told the court about an incident that occurred on September 22, 2023.

She recounted that Brian Mwenda sent an email seeking assistance because he was unable to access his online portal.

After assisting Mwenda, Mosuna received a phone call from another individual who also identified himself as Brian Mwenda Ndwiga.

"The  lawyer told us that the account he had accessed is unrecognizable. He said they share an admission number with another advocate by the name Brian mwenda," she testified.

The witness described the claim as unusual, emphasizing that it is not possible for two advocates to share the same admission number.

"At this point everything appeared strange and escalated the matter to ICT for guidance," court heard.

The case has drawn public attention, as the issue of fraudulent legal practitioners remains a significant concern within the legal profession.

On cross examination Vivian said that she has never received any call from the accused requesting for any changes.

In the case Brian Mwenda Njagi  has been charged with making a fake certificate for admission to practice law as an Advocate.

Mwenda has denied six counts of making a false document, uttering a false document and identity theft.
