Limuru III meeting: CS Kuria joins list of organizers as battle lines drawn in Mt. Kenya
The Limuru III
meeting, pegged as a socio-economic and political gathering for Mt. Kenya
region, has drawn interest from across the political divide, just two days
before the meeting.
On Wednesday
evening, Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria joined the list of
organizers for the event, the agenda of which remains unclear.
"We started
organising the Limuru I meeting with the late President Mwai Kibaki and that is
why I am here to make the Limuru III meeting happen," said Kuria.
He added that the Friday
meeting will bring together professionals and businessmen from Mt. Kenya as
well as religious organizations to chart the region's path.
Kuria likewise
suggested that a debate on resource sharing will prominently be highlighted at
Limuru III after Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua sparked a discussion on the ‘one
man, one vote, one shilling’ last week.
"We are going
to have that debate because it is justified. We must talk about how our people
are being given resources under the one-man-one-vote-one-shilling," said
Kuria.
Earlier, Azimio
leaders from the region led by Jeremiah Kioni and former Laikipia Governor
Nderitu Muriithi said the gathering will be the start of anti-government
protests against high taxation contained in the Finance Bill 2024.
"We are
starting our revolution on Friday and it is part of our home-grown solutions to
the high cost of living," said Kioni.
"Already we
are seeing people inviting themselves to our meeting....we have started doing
accreditation for the attendees," Muriithi added.
Organisers say
that at least 30 political parties from the Mt. Kenya region have so far
confirmed their attendance.
