'Let's work together, unclench your fists': Governor Kawira now appeals to Meru MCAs
Meru
Governor Kawira Mwangaza has extended an olive branch to Members of the County
Assembly (MCAs) following their much publicized row on Wednesday, October 19,
2022.
Speaking
in Meru on Thursday as residents of the devolved unit joined other Kenyans to
mark Mashujaa Day, Mwangaza called for a ceasefire urging the MCAs to let
bygones be bygones and parley with her.
According
to Mwangaza, the MCAs should correspondingly focus their attentions on
collaborating with her on county projects for the betterment of Meru residents.
"Let
me take this opportunity to extend an olive branch to all leaders especially
the Members of County Assembly of Meru," she said.
"My
hand is open and my government is open for you. I ask that all leaders unclench
their fists. Let's work together, let's move forward together as we make our
people happy because Meru must be happy."
This
comes a day after Meru MCAs orchestrated a walkout on the first-time Governor
during what was set to be her maiden address at the County Assembly on grounds
that she was allegedly belittling and ignoring their demands.
The
MCAs went as far as barring Mwangaza from accessing the County Assembly's
premises, forcing her to make an address outside the chamber.
They
also retconned a song made famous by Kawira's husband, Murega Baichu, during
her inauguration by castigating her predecessor Kiraitu Murungi.
Baicu sang: "Kawira twende...Kawira twende...twende
twende....Kawira twende.... King'ang'i bye Kingang'i bye bye bye King'ang'i
bye."
In
the remix of the original song, the MCAs instead applauded current Meru County
Assembly Speaker Ayub Bundi at the expense of Mwangaza.
"Ayub
twende, Ayub twende...twende twende....Ayub twende....Kawira bye Kawira bye bye
bye Kawira bye," chanted the MCAs.
