Lawyer Paul Gicheru buried in Nakuru
Lawyer Paul Gicheru was on Thursday laid to
rest at his family home in Kwa Nguku, Bahati sub-county, Nakuru County in a
send-off that brought together legal practitioners and friends from across the
country.
Calls
for unity among family members dominated the speeches, with legal practitioners
describing Gicheru as a visionary leader who left an indelible mark in the
legal profession.
Hundreds
of mourners trooped to the home of the deceased to pay their last respects to
the 52-year-old man, who many knew as a lawyer.
To
his family, before his legal profession, he was a husband, dad, and mentor.
"My
love I wish you could wake up, I cannot believe you are gone so soon. We shared
23 years together and I am happy for the time. Our years cannot be summarized
on paper; we will miss you so much," Gicheru's widow Ruth Nyambura said.
"Dad,
we will dearly miss you and treasure all our memories together," Gicheru's
son, Alvin Gicheru, said.
Gicheru's
friends and colleagues in the legal field likewise paid glowing tributes to
their friend who they described as well-mannered, calm, and firm in his beliefs.
They
said Gicheru’s death on Monday, September 26th came as a shock, and called for
the family members to remain united in grief.
"I
handled a few cases with him (Gicheru) and he had great legal knowledge. He was
an astute lawyer and a good man and I take this opportunity to thank mama
Wambui Njoroge who raised him well," lawyer John Khaminwa said.
“Gicheru
has already left us and I would like to urge his wife and mother to turn a
blind eye to all the rumors doing rounds across the country. We will go home
but we will leave the two of you and you need to be united," Nominated MP
Joseph Wainaina added.
Gicheru
was facing charges of tampering with witnesses at the International Criminal
Court (ICC) in the collapsed case against President William Ruto and
broadcaster Joshua Sang.
President
Ruto, in a tribute delivered to the family on his behalf, described Gicheru as
a hardworking lawyer.
