Lawyer Gibson Kuria seeks police protection after armed goons raid his home, put up fence
Senior Counsel of
the High Court of Kenya Dr. Gibson Kuria Kamau has written to the Inspector
General of Police seeking protection for himself, his family as well as his
property following an alleged invasion of his residential home by unknown
assailants on Friday.
Dr. Kuria
explained that, while in court handling a client’s case, he received communication
from his family informing him that a group of rowdy youth armed with machetes
had stormed his home.
The youth
reportedly also had building materials like poles, cement, as well as iron
sheets and had gotten into his one acre piece of land and were already at work
fencing off part of his home in Karen, Nairobi.
“We may be the
latest of numerous victims of invasions of property which are taking place in
the country as described at page 7 of the issue of the Daily Nation of 12th
April, even so, under Section 24 of the National Police Service Act, one of the
function of the police is to protect life and property” read part of Dr.
Kuria’s letter to the IG.
The advocate
maintained that it is within philosophic context that the invasions of the
private property should be viewed and stopped before they reach dangerous
proportions.

the private property should be viewed and stopped before they reach dangerous
proportions.
“We have a title
deed to the property and we have been having our home in this property since
2009, for 14 years, and this is the first time that the invasion of this kind
is taking place.” added Dr. Kuria.
According to an
eyewitness, the group of fierce young men who trespassed the property said they
were sent by a businessman who claimed that the plot is his inheritance from a
‘Mzungu’ who gifted him the property in a will.
They said that the
men had some documents among them, which looked like a title deed and a will.
It took the neighbours’
intervention for the men to leave the property, however leaving behind some
building materials and making a promise to return properly.
The matter has
since been reported to Hardy Police Station in Karen.
